Lesson Plan

This lesson is from a unit on identity, which I taught during the secondary rotation in student teaching. This project is an extension of a “performance art” type piece in which people from all over the world have traded ATCs or Artist Trading Cards – like that of Poke’mon, baseball, and other gaming cards. Students were introduced to a variety of mixed-media techniques, and on a 2.5×3.5” piece of cardstock they visually represented themselves or something about themselves and the area in which they are from. Students communicated these characteristics of themselves in order to cultivate their understanding of other cultures – in doing so the students applied problem solving and critical thinking skills to communicate through their art and the transaction that the trading cards encourage.

Standard I challenges me to create authentic lessons that are dynamic and enable students to create meaning.
