Stereotypes: Myth v. Mayhem
Lesson Plan
Stories Unit Overview
PowerPoint

This lesson is from a unit on stories, which I taught during the secondary rotation in student teaching.  The lesson presents the idea of stereotypes and how they affect your view of the world.  The students were introduced to the contemporary artist, Kara Walker, and her cut paper installations.  The students then created their own installations, reflecting on the stereotypes in their school.  This artifact represents a learning experience for students that presents a cohesive lesson that combines art production, history, criticism and aesthetics in a way that is relevant and on the students’ level.

Standard I challenges me to create authentic lessons that are dynamic and enable students to create meaning.
